I was about to begin searching for a horse to buy when it struck me that a mutually beneficial arrangement, where i provide livery and care of someone’s horse in exchange for me riding 3-4 days a week, might work. Or maybe this kind of arrangement might suit someone going off to university that wants to ride in the holidays?
Our small yard is at our family home in South Wonston, Winchester (SO21), where we have 7 acres, stables, a small all weather school (30x40) and excellent off road hacking in all directions. Our horses live out 24/7 unless the weather is truly horrid. I am a lightweight, quiet, experienced rider approaching 50 who enjoys classical riding and long, active hacks on my own and in company. I would prefer a gelding (as our other horses are all geldings) who’s 14h 3” to 15h 2” (due to small school), forward going, responsive and enjoys attention. I like horses with character but would prefer fairly good manners on the ground and ridden. I’m not interested in adrenaline filled rides, galloping or jumping but the horse must be sound and healthy and able to lead an active life.
