The thoughts of Chairman Jon

It goes with out saying that the 'main users of the Hampshire Constabulary's services' are still well and truly active.
Make it difficult for them.
Mark your property.
Stand back and look at your premises and think how would you get in.
Have a wander around your property, yards, premises and think what could I easily take away?
Please call Tanya Thompson, Crime Prevention Officer at Winchester if you want advice.

I am currently in the process of trying to get large signs made up that will be supplied to all members to put on your properties. Sometimes that is enough to put them off.

A couple of apologies

You may recall that I recently sent out a sheet on the law in relation to poaching and associated offences. It was pointed out to me that it was a little bit out of date in relation to the Game Licences. I will amend it and re-transmit.
That'll teach me not to proof read!

Winchester Countrywatch - Advice about Poaching

I have been asked over the last few months about what poaching offences there, what can be done.
I have found this document that may be of interest. It covers most offences relating to poaching, but hopefully will give you a guide as to what we want as evidence when dealing with incidents of this sort.
You will see sections that refer to 'authorised persons' and what they can do legally.
I can only stress again that I want witnesses who can tell me what they saw and heard. I don't want people getting injured!!!!

If there is anything that you want clarifying, give me a call.

Counterfeit Agrochemicals
Police have received reports that dangerous counterfeit agrochemicals are being illegally imported into Europe. The counterfeiters are using well known brand names including Granstar, Harmony, Score, Reglone, Gaucho, Prestige, Raxil & Nurelle.
The chemicals are being distributed throughout Europe including the UK as genuine products; they are untested, unsafe and potentially hazardous causing health risks to farmers applying or storing these chemicals.
Do not purchase other than from your usual regular reputable sources and if in doubt contact the manufacturer directly to verify the source.

Immobilise The UK National Property Register
You can now record all of your personal property free onhttp://www.immobilise.com/ Further information on the website.

Make it easier for the eye in the sky!
This may be a good idea for those of you with horse trailers, horse lorrys or other large items of machinery with a flat roof.
If we can see them from above, it makes it a lot easier to catch them. Unfortunately, an upgrade of aircraft to an AC130 Spectre is not viable.

Crime Prevention Officer
Tanya Thompson, the Winchester area Crime Prevention Officer is now in post. She will be coming out with me on patrol, and we'll be trying to get around to see as many of you as possible over the next few weeks.
She is based at Winchester Police Station, and can be contacted on 01962 871386. Please give her a call if you want any advice re crime prevention methods.

Unfortunately we had 10 rolls of brand new stock fence to put up and some horrible people came to our yard at about 11am on the 10th feb and took it all, it surprised us how fearless they were as there's people in and out all day. We're in Pitton near salisbury. Thought people might want to know what the rascalls are up to.
Kind regards, Marion

Personalised saddle cloth

The yard where my 7 yr old daughter loans a pony was broken into last night, THANKFULLY NO HORSES WERE TOUCHED! But all the coats / Grooming kits / tack & saddles that were there have gone. I am fully aware there's probably not much hope of getting of these things back.

Also taken was my daughter personalised saddle cloth (a much loved christmas gift), it's a pony size, black with a gold horse emrioded on one size with her name KELSIE on it, this is not the normal way to spell Kelsie, so it's a highly indervidual item, please please keep you eyes / ears open!

The yard is in Owslebury, Nr Winchester.

Many thanks

Stolen Landrover - Malshanger - North Waltham

Between the hours of 23:30 last night and 06:45 hours this morning, a Land Rover TDI 90 registration number RX03 WLA - was stolen from beside The Lodge in Malshanger. The back of the vehicle is aluminium back with a dog guard on it.

The rural in general is being hit with non-dwelling burglaries. Can I ask that everyone remains vigilant and to report anything you deem to be suspicious, no matter how trivial it may seem, it could be the missing link in helping us solve a crime or series of crimes?

If you see a crime in process please call 999 and relay as much information as possible to the call taker, stay on the line if it you can, but do not put yourself in any danger. If you see a non-urgent matter please call on 0845 045 45 45. I can be contacted on my mobile - 07776 172310 - but not in the first instance to report crime, it is important you call via control room as I may be off duty.

Many thanks for your support.

Some good work to tell you about . . .

A landowner in Compton called police to inform us of two poachers with air rifles on his land. He also informed of us of a suss vehicle, likely to be connected to them. Units attended and the vehicle was seen driving away, it was stopped and both males were arrested for poaching, their firearms were seized along with a crow-bar.

The two males were dressed in full camouflage attire. Their vehicle was a white Transit van FJ02KXC, sign written with the text Aqua on the bonnet in blue.

The landowner was very appreciative of the police response. Pc Barry WEBBER is investigating.

A similar report from Bere Heath Bere Regis. White Transit flat bed. Occupants got out of the vehicle about 4.45 hrs this morning on the farm and when the lights went on jumped back in and made off.

In the Critchel area of Wimborne a suspicious silver/steel grey transit van was acting suspiciously registration KU53OZM. This comes back to a white Transit from up North and registered to a company so not sure if the registration number was slightly out or this is the same vehicle and sold on.
