I'm still playing & trying out different styles, so don't be surprised if it looks drastically different each visit until I've finished.

Be nice to have the poster's name and avatar on the left hand side, like on the old forum?

Yep, I haven't found a style that I'm happy with yet. I've been trying a few then modifying them to suit, but you would know all about that! Any tips?

Not really - when I started I set up 4 different forums on 4 different hosts, with 4 different styles. Then Freaky and I tested them to destruction and ruled out 2 as being too slow, then we had a vote to choose between the other two. The only style change I did was a change of logo!

This green and grey one is nice :D

Yep, I'm liking this one. It's just the very basic subsilver2 with some of the images & css changed, but it works well both in & out of the frames.

Still got to go through the FAQ's & the all important rules before going live.

Once you know how, it's just as easy to see on this forum - you just need to get used to it. When I changed the ForestChat forum from network54 to phpBB3, lots of people said they didn't like it but within a very few days they were saying how much better it was......

When you go into a forum and look at the list of topics, the ones that have had new posts since you last looked have a little symbol Image to the left of the topic title. If you click on this symbol rather than on the topic title, it will take you straight to the first unread post in that topic. :D

It does take some getting used to, but will be worth it for the extra features. I was constantly getting Emails from people wanting to join but finding the two stage system too complicated & then having to have a separate photo hosting account to show photos, this system takes care of all of that.

It also comes down to money! We needed the new server for the amount of traffic the site is now getting. The dedicated server costs a lot more that we were paying before but has a lot of spare capacity.

We were paying Network54 for the old forums, which is pretty crazy when they cause problems & we have the server capacity to run our own forums.

It is a great shame that the old messages can’t be migrated over, but they are still online if anyone wants to see them at http://www.network54.com/Index/32173

The old boards had nearly 700 registered users, but very few of these were active. This is a fresh start, so please stick with it, I felt exactly the same when I first started using another website which uses this system but the more I used it, the more I preferred it over Network 54.

Should also say that there is a "View unread posts" link on the top right hand side. That will show you all the new posts that you haven't seen.
