I have just rescued a NF mare she is very nervous of people and has had a traumatic and abused life, I've had her for 5 days now and yesterday noticed she has a brand on her, does anyone know how I trace her breeder from this brand? Also she was sold to me without a passport but if she's branded surely she would have had a passport at somepoint? I believe her to be about 7 so if she did run on the forest it would have been since the law changed on horse passports.

Can someone help shed some light on this :-)

Hello there!

I had a very close experience to your own, and found the New Forest Pony & Cattle Breeding Society very helpful. Just check out their website and post your enquiry through to them on an email.

Also, their annual studbooks are full of interesting information (including all the brand names and their owners).

I bet once you start looking, you will be checking out your lovely pony's family tree ... (i did!!!!)

Hope this helps. Enjoy her.
