Does anyone have any knowledge of equine stroke
I have a very old ie 45-50yr old Shetland who I found yesterday with
What I thought was a swollen front leg thinking one of the others had had a fight with him no marks on him tho. I gave him a bit of bute and put him in a paddock alone today am he was fine walking around a little stiff but no heat or swelling. Just got to him now and his back leg opposite side he is hoping on no swelling or heat. He is still eating and seems ok in himself. Just wondering if it could be a couple of stokes that he has had. Vet is coming tomorrow to see him. Any ideas?

I have a pony who was taken suddenly ill last year. Among the possible causes was (in their words) 'a stroke type event'.

Her symptoms were sudden blindness, severely weak hindquarters, odd chewing motion. In other words neurological symptoms. Over time, much of her vision returned, her HQs got stronger, the chewing improved slightly - but she never lost all of it, and over recent months has deteriorated again.

I would expect any horse with a stroke type problem to show neurological problems of some sort.

Yeah I thought that too he is much brighter today walking normal on all 4 legs. I have put hoof boots on him today as was a possibility of sore feet according to the vet so watch this space he might go on for a bit longer yet! Apart from the rain he was much happier today :-)

What a great age! Have you got a picture of him that you can post?
