As you may know, we have had either a very active group or an individual with multiple Email addresses trying the over payment scam on our classifieds advertisers over the last couple of days.

If you have received an Email, from:
davidmoore204@gmail.com
s.kenneth_p1957@hotmail.com (kenneth_preston@???)
gtfrankbarlow.1@hotmail.com
kingstonelink@gmail.com just delete it.

If you have replied to one of the Emails, don’t worry, they can’t do anything. Hopefully you have already read our scam page & are well aware of common internet scams. They only want your money, so can’t win unless they can successfully trick you into sending it. Just delete any further Emails from them

Each reported scammer is added to the offenders list (http://www.nfed.co.uk/scam.htm#offenders), which is linked from all classifieds enquiry Emails. I also Email each scammer to let them know they have been reported & listed. They don’t like their Email address being publicised as other websites can then search for the address & find out what they are up to. If they don’t make any money & we can cause problems for them, they normally move on to another site.

The majority of scammers come from Nigeria, Algeria & Ghana, I've now blocked all current IP’s from these countries from viewing the NFED. It’s not fool proof, so education is still the best defence, but should help to cut down the scammer numbers.

I apologise to anyone visiting these countries & hoping to stay in touch via the NFED. ;)

Update on the Update!

Classifieds replies have been modified & now contain the ip address of the sender. If it is a scam, we can now track the senders Internet Service Provider (ISP) & country, then block access to the NFED if necessary.

If the Internet Service Provider (ISP) is in the UK, Europe or any country that may use the NFED beneficially, we cannot block them as it may also block access to genuine users connecting through the same ISP.

Yes, I do take attempts to abuse the NFED personally :hunt:

He is on the scammer list, but this shouldn't cause the other problems, they are only after your money, but I would alway make sure that your anti virus is up to date.

Is he Emailing you directly, or replying to an advert? If he is Emailing directly, I guess that you have replied already or shown your Email address in your advert as this is normally hidden.

If he is sending emails through your advert, please forward them to me.

If he is using the Hotmail address, you can report him to report_spam@hotmail.com

Steve

"Frank Barlow" has been back, but this time we had his IP address. I've blocked access to the site & reported him to his Internet Service Provider.

They have sent the following:

Thank you for your abuse report submission. We have logged a case with our client and have provided him/her 24 hours to respond to us regarding the report you've submitted. Although we may not follow up with you directly, please know that we take every measure to ensure our clients are abiding by our Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy.

It would be great to get his broadband switched off! :D
