I was one to those riders who was lucky enough to start the ride just as the rain stopped. We had a great time. This is the 3rd time I have done the ride and is one of my favourites. I highly recommend it. It is so well organised, the scenery is lovely, the jumps well maintained and inviting and everyone is really friendly.
I would also like to thank all the volunteer stewards who had to stand in the pouring rain for hours and waited patiently for us to finish our ride ( I think we were the last ones to go round).
I am planning on doing it again next year when hopefully the weather will be better next time, with more money raised for the charities.

You will recall that over the past few months the event was advertised inviting people to take part. I also asked for volunteers to assist with stewarding.

Normally the Ride is blessed with good weather however this year it was not to be.

Even with rain falling at an intensity that would have had Noah re launching the Ark 96 riders completed the course.

The fact that the Ride took place in very wet conditions meant that the volunteer stewards had to be present and out on the course.

I would like to thank, through the medium of NFED, all those volunteers who turned out in very adverse conditions.

Equally I would like to thank those late entry riders who turned up to take part. It would have been so easy to have stayed at home in the dry!!

The feed back from riders was that not withstanding the rain they enjoyed the ride and course. Those that missed the rain at the latter part of the day enjoyed it even more!!

Proceeds from the event will go to this year’s chosen charities which are Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, Riding for the Disabled and Neighbourcare.

Pricing Change

• In order to encourage you to come and enjoy the ride the “Ride” committee have agreed to not to charge children the late entry fee.

• The same will apply to adults BUT the Committee will leave it to the discretion of the adult if they would like to generously pay the late entry fee especially as the money goes towards helping the three nominated charities

Prices are:

Cross country only: Adult £20, Child (16 & under) £15. First Aid cover £2 per entry
Late entry £25

The nominated charities are – Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, Neighbourcare and Riding for the Disabled.

The weather promises to be good. The course is set in some beautiful and interesting countryside. There are optional jumps in the first half of the ride.

The Farleigh House Charity Ride day is drawing closer. Just over a week to go. I have been out on the Ride route today. The estate is in good order with harvesting taking place, the scenery wonderful and views to the south look stunning.

There is a lot of wildlife flying and moving about. As a taster I have seen the obligatory rabbits, butterflies of varying varieties and colours. Kite and other birds of prey fly high and low!! Deer are leaping about.

So why not come and see for yourself on Sunday 4th September? Spend a couple of hours riding around the estate knowing that your ride fee is going to support three well deserving charities.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, Neighbourcare and Riding for the Disabled

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance display unit will be present to talk about the work of the air ambulance which is charitable organisation and relies solely on donations and sponsorship. It is a 24/7 emergency response service and you never know when you or someone close to you may need the air ambulance to airlift you to hospital. As horse riders you will appreciate the fact that equine related injuries can happen anytime any place.

The annual Farleigh Charity Ride will be held on Lord Portsmouth’s Estate at Farleigh Wallop, near Basingstoke, Hampshire on Sunday 4th September 2011. 9:30am to 1pm. This will be the 9th year that such an event has been held at this venue and Hampshire Horsewatch will once again be supporting this Charity Ride.
