BRC Area 17 SJ Qualifiers - Posted on Monday, June 23 2008
BRC Area 17 Show Jumping Qualifiers June 22nd 2008

Juniors head to SJ Championships at Lincoln

Solent Riding Club kindly hosted the Area 17 qualifiers this year at the Hampshire Show Centre site Pinkmead near to Botley
NFPEC fielded both a Senior and a Junior team for the Novice qualifier as well as a junior individual and a Senior Team for the Style Jumping.
We had a totally new junior team but they really set the day off in style by leading the competition after round one with a zero score and then going onto produce another zero score in round two- the nearest team- a usually unbeatable IOW could do no better than complete with 35 jumping penalties. None of our riders had jumped at this standard before but on the coursewalk all four listened carefully and followed instructions beautifully therefore giving their ponies the very best chance of jumping clear rounds.
Sarah Slegg with Sprattsdown Marcus was not at all fazed by being the very first in the ring and produced a lovely safe clear round to show the rest of the team just how to do the same!!
Photobucket
Chloe Kennard, had been working hard all year with Dawn Vear’s Kilncopse Carmen but a slight cough put paid to their plans. However a quick visit to the forest to try Miss Avril Darnton’s Rodlease May Delight on Friday evening paid dividends for all concerned. They quickly forged a super partnership and although May had not showjumped since last August and Chloe had ridden very little in competition few spectators would have believed this with their lovely clear round.
Photobucket
Jessy Myott with Willoway Shogun- a partnership that had found fame on their dressage debut by winning their section of the NPS Top Spec Finals in April also proved that they were great showjumping team debutants with a well ridden clear
Photobucket
Flora Gibbs our youngest team member at ten years old hoping to follow the success of the other three had a really unfortunate ‘blip’ at the first fence with Willoway Pipers Delight completing missing her stride resulting in a fall and subsequent elimination for the fall. However in the second round with a few spooky fillers added it was the turn of Sarah to have a really unlucky fall following a huge jump from her pony at the final double- Sarah could’nt quite hang on and met the ground a matter of inches before the finish line. Flora therefore as our final rider having seen Chloe and Jessy complete their second clears knew that she had to complete the course for our team to stay in the competition. This she certainly did with tremendous determination providing us with the all important clear and the winners spot for the team.

Photobucket
Chloe and Jessie were then in a jump off with the other double clears, both did super clears again and finished 3rd and 4th individually
Chloe then had to rush from her jump off to the style jumping and once again produced an immaculate clear to be 5th in that competition- a tremendous day for her- 4 clears on a pony that she had only met once before.
A FANTASTIC DAY FOR THE JUNIORS and many thanks to our support team on the day- especially Ruth our photographer and Bunny who kindly treated the winning juniors to an icecream each

While all the excitement with the juniors was happening the senior team : Jane Cleal – Farriers Brown Bear, Vicky Palmer – Farriers Fair Impression, Caroline Saker – Wayland Loganberry and Sally Anne Pierson- Chester were competing in both the Style and the Novice Team Jumping. All the ponies jumped consistently well and the team finished 4th in the Style and 5th in the Novice. Caroline was 4th individually in the Style and Jane 3rd individually having jumped 3 clears in the novice. Well done everybody

Success and more success - Posted on Sunday, April 20 2008
With thanks to a number of club members claiming very consistent wins and placings in the Dressage and SJ the club has won the overall Area 17 Winter League. Caroline Saker won the individual title with Wayland Loganberry. The very generous prize for Caroline was a voucher for £80 worth of training with a trainer of her choice and the club has a very useful PA system on the way as it's prize. Following on from that Caroline won the Hunter Trial qualifier with an optimum time only one second off the pace. The senior novice team finished in 5th place- Jane, Sally Anne Pierson and Rachel together with Caroline.
Jane Cleal with Rachel Smith won the Pairs qualifier. The senior novice team finished in 5th place Caroline, Rachel and Jane will be heading off to the Champs at Aston Le Walls at the beginning of June. The IOW had a very good day with their juniors and their seniors winning the team competitions.
Well Done to you all

BRC National Winter Dressage Championships - Posted on Monday, April 7 2008
Once again the NFPEC have come out on top at the very highest level. The winter Dressage Championships - a brand new Riding Clubs Competition. Each of the 23 Areas run qualifiers with up to 26 teams competing at each qualifier- the winners from each Area coming forward to the final at Hartpury. Teams came from the length and breadth of the country- the top Riding Club dressage riders from Scotland to Cornwall with some fantastic looking horses. However our team not to be fazed by their fellow competitors put in absolutely fantastic performances- despite the gusty conditions, a hailstorm and a bout of flu!! The team :Caroline Saker on the Wayland Stud's Wayland Loganberry,
Sophie Albery (fresh out of juniors) on Brookshill Beethoven Photobucket

Sally Anne Pierson - Chester (last minute reserve for Jenny Steel and Wayland Mulberry) and Mandy Pidgely - Longcopse Elton won the team championship by a very healthy margin. Caroline with a score of 76.36%took the overall individual titlePhotobucket

Meanwhile we also had our senior Show jumpers in action- in fact Chester took part in both Championships.Chester
The ponies put up excellent performances with Rachel Smith- Sturtmoor Song'N'Dance and Jane Cleal- Farriers Brown Bear both jumping double clears. Vicky Palmer with Farriers Fair Impression made up the quartet- also with two good roundsPhotobucket

NFPEC currently lead the winter league series with very good results in both dressage and show jumping. Caroline Saker leads the dressage section with Wayland Loganberry

AREA INDOOR QUALIFIERS - Posted on Saturday, March 1 2008
Our team consisting Jane Cleal- Farriers Brown Bear, Sally Anne Pierson - Janet Walton's Chester,Rachel Smith -Sturtmoor Song'n Dance and Vicky Palmer - Farriers Fair Impression kept up the clubs winning streak by winning the indoor senior qualifier at Kingston Maureward. They now go forward to the finals at Hartpury in April along with our Dressage team. A very exciting jump off with South and West Wilts in which all four scores count produced some very quick rounds with our ponies finishing 4 seconds ahead. A great day for all but especially for Vicky who came in as a late substitute with little match practice - setting us up with the first clear as well as a really good jump off round.
VERY WELL DONE TO ALL

Winter Dressage Area 17 Jan 20th 2008 - Posted on Friday, January 25 2008
Report from Caroline Saker

MORE SUCCESS FOR THE NFPEC!

There has been more success for the NFPEC at the recent Riding Club Winter Dressage Qualifier, which is a new competition and was held at Sparsholt College on Sunday 20th January.

The competition consisted of two tests, a prelim and a novice, both of which was ridden by two team members.

We managed to field two senior teams, consisting of the following ponies and riders:

NFPEC Gold: Caroline Saker Wayland Loganberry
Mandy Pidgely Longcopse Elton
Jenny Steel Wayland Mulberry
Sophie Albery Brookshill Beethove

NFPEC Green: Val Hall Obershade Minstrel
Dawn Vear Kilncopse Fly by Night
Sarah Goddard Hurstfield Billy Bigalo
Teresa Russel Vicars Hill Jack the Lad
Thankfully, after all the dreadful weather we have had recently, we were lucky and all managed to stay relatively dry throughout the day, although it was rather windy for those ponies doing the prelims outside!

Mandy was the first of us to ride and started us off brilliantly with a score of over 70%, which eventually led to her winning her Novice section. Jenny Steel and Sophie Albery (who is in her first year as a senior) both did very well, each coming 2nd in their prelim sections. I then won my Novice section, with a score of 74%. These scores ensured that the NFPEC Gold Team won the team competition, which consisted of 16 teams, with a considerable lead over the second placed team. – a fantastic result! Best efforts were given by all of the Green team & promising tests were performed, however, their scores were not quite high enough to be placed.

By winning, we have qualified for the Winter Dressage Championship, to be held at Hartpury on the 5th and 6th April.

In the afternoon, the Winter League continued with the Individual competitions and again we were all very successful. Jenny won her other Prelim test, Mandy was 4th in the Novice and I won the Elementary.

So overall, the New Forest Ponies had a fantastic day and I would like to say a big well done to everyone.

Currently, the NFPEC lies in 2nd place overall in the league, with me and Logan current leaders in the individual competition.

Caroline Saker.

Area Training Days - Posted on Thursday, January 3 2008
Area 17 have the following training days coming up. Please could you let me (Suzannekempe@uwclub.net) know asap if you would like to attend either of them so that I can contact Peter Buist

1. The training day on running an area qualifier. This is on Saturday 26 January 2008. It will be held in the Jubilee Hall, New Road, Timsbury (where the Area Liaison Meetings are held). Starting at 10.30 am and finishing by 2.30 pm with a break for some lunch in between. Coffee will be served from 10.00 am. Bring your own lunch pack, but tea & coffee will be available. This will be a must attend event for any of this years and last years organisers, so that lessons learned can be passed on. Clubs not involved in organising a qualifier would also benefit from attending to gain valuable background information on what is entailed in running a qualifier. The cost of this training day will be met from Area funds. I am now in the process of designing a programme for the day, but it's not too late if you wish some particular item to be included, please let me know. Names of delegates to me please by 12 January 2008.

2. The training day for the BHS run course on safeguarding children. This is confirmed for 9 February 2008. It too will be held in the Jubilee Hall, New Road, Timsbury. Starting at 10.30 am (coffee from 10.00) and finishing about 1.30 pm. This is a must attend event for all newly appointed club welfare officers and the course fee for these people will be met from Area funds. All clubs should be sending a delegate. If clubs wish to send more delegates then the cost per person will be £24.00. Names of those attending to me please by 26 January.

Olympia Quadrille Final - Posted on Thursday, December 27 2007
SEIB Quadrille Final Olympia 2007

A huge THANKYOU and many CONGRATULATIONS to all those members and supporters of NFPEC that made the Quadrille such a success.
On arrival at Olympia one would have been forgiven for thinking that Olympia had moved to Hampshire for round every corner you bumped into an Enthusiast- even in the coffee shop across the road.
Joy Alderson has already posted reports and photos on NFED but I would like to seed an idea to all you followers.
With the enormous hard work, time and finances put in by all of the Quadrille teams it was a real shame that they had so few spectators around the arena. Olympia2007
Had it not been for our club’s supporting crowd there would indeed have been very few.Supporters
SEIB as sponsors must surely wish to have a better slot at Olympia and it would be worth us writing to Olympia and suggesting that the 4 finalists display either during the afternoon performance or even better in the evening when the costumes would sparkle at their best. The Quadrille is truly fantastic entertainment and is more than worthy of a proper slot at Olympia.olympia prize giving
Please email me with your thoughts

Quadrille Display Evening - Posted on Friday, November 30 2007
Display Evening Report.

The festive season got off with a swing for a huge crowd of New Forest Pony Enthusiast Club members and friends on the 24th November at Ford Farm in Brockenhurst.
The evening featured a Quadrille Display, Hog Roast and a very popular Dressage To Music demonstration, which included some of our team members who competed at Addington in the British Riding Clubs Dressage To Music Championships.
Mandy Pidgley and Theresa Russell performed a pairs dressage to music display with Longcopse Elton and his son Vicarshill Jack The Lad, who very professionally filled the shoes of Mandys usual partner, Kilncopse Fly By Night (Dawn Vear) who was unable to attend. Eltons son Jack, who is only four and was broken in April, coped amazingly well with the atmosphere and noise, looking set to follow in his fathers footsteps and we look forward to seeing more of him in the future.
Claire Moir wowed the crowd and gave everyone something to aspire to with a fabulous demonstration on her nine year old chestnut thoroughbred ‘Moley’
Caroline Saker riding Wayland Loganberry also showed us their talents following their success in both the Novice and Elementary sections at Addington.
The Quadrille team performed their routine twice, making the most of the huge crowd to prepare for Olympia. These four ponies, Chester II (Sally Ann Pierson), Burley Branston (Wendy Adams), Farriers Foxglove (Helen Campbell) and Farriers Fingerprint (Martine Reeves), took the (deafening!) noise all in their stride and the Quadrille team (which includes grooms, seamstress, Chef D`Equipe, trainer, etc. etc. and our team mascots Jack and Molly!) would like to thank everyone for their fantastic support, it really does make a difference.
The evening wouldn’t have been complete without an appearance by Father Christmas’s elves (Suzanne and Patrick Kempe and Jack Reeves) with a sleigh pulled by Rudolph who was cleverly disguised as Fleetwater Flame!. We were told that the elves had been sent by Father Christmas with lots of goodies from his store to make way for this year’s gifts.

Many thanks to Wendy Halliday for donating the toys and a huge thankyou to June Witham who organised a tremendous Raffle with takings exceeding £250
The evening was such a huge success that there are plans to run a similar event next year along the lines of a mini Olympia.
Huge thanks must go to James Young and Trudy Nineham for the use of their brilliant facilities and continued support of the club, also to all the hardworking stewards and organisers who made it such a success..
Also enormous thanks to all the supporters who came to cheer on the Quadrille team, who now go to Olympia determined to show everyone what these wonderful Foresters can do! The evening raised in excessof £1800 for the Quadrille Funds.

Dressage Competition 14 October Hurn Bridge Equestrian Centre - Posted on Sunday, October 21 2007
Dressage Competition 14 October Hurn Bridge Equestrian Centre

Helen Campbell and I (Tricia Russell) ran a Dressage Competition at Hurn Bridge Equestrian Centre on Sunday 14 October - despite a postal strike the week before we managed to fill all classes and even had a waiting list. I think everyone who came thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we provided something for everyone - walk and trot test for beginners with a lovely little shetland competing - Prelim and Novice which were qualifiers for the NPS and a fun Dressage to Music class.

We were very lucky to have donations from The Royal Oak at Fritham, the Lamb at Nomansland, Wessex Osteopathy in Lymington, Wayne (full name to follow) and a club member who paid for the hire of the facilities. Also our thanks to Pauline Black who supplied all our wonderful rosettes

Helen and I would like to thank our judges and helpers, without whom the day could not have gone ahead.

Elaine Morgan who judged the walk and trot and her writer.
Claire Moir who judged the Prelim test which ran from 11.30 - 2.30 - phew.
Diana Wilson who judged the Novice and Music running from 2.30 - 5.30 - phew - and I was writing for both judges - now have writers cramp!

Extremely hard working and capable stewards who worked non stop all day to get everyone in on time - and towards the end of the classes quite a lot before time! these were Rachel Ward and Rebecca Capper.
Not forgetting Rachel Capper who was our 'adder-upper' and in between times read tests for people.

Last but not least the competitors who because of their support on the day we managed to raise over £650 for the Quadrille.

BRC National Championships Lincoln - Posted on Wednesday, September 12 2007
British Riding Club National Finals Lincoln 2007

So with an air of of expectancy, enthusiasm and excitement we once more gathered our belongings and our ponies and arrived at Lincoln. A shorter journey time of 5 hours gave everyone a good start to the weekend. Once beds were put down and ponies settled we set up camp and waited for the others to arrive.

By 8 O’clock we sat down to a BBQ and the excitement and tales of last year went into the night. Three newcomers to Lincoln, Wendy Adams (qualified with the Novice Dressage team) Louise James riding in the Rural Riders and Novice Dressage team along with a Riding Test (she was going to be very busy) and finally Rachel Smith (Novice showjumping) made us a merry camp of 15 for the evening (quite noisy I think compared to others) but full of laughter.

Saturday began with the autumnal feel it always does, but with good weather. Our first test starting at 9.30am Rural Riders , everyone was up bright and early in preparation for the test.

At 9 O’clock we prepared and practiced our weakest parts and 9.30 the test was ridden, thoughtfully and skillfully. Spacing was good and the dressings were set up and well executed.

The team: Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Lead Pony – Longcopse Elton – ridden by Amanda Pidgely
Farriers Fingerprint – ridden by Martine Reeves
Farriers Foxglove – ridden by Helen Campbell
Greencottage Democrat – ridden by Louise James
Chester II – ridden by Sally Anne Pierson
Kilncopse Fly by Night – ridden by Dawn Vear
Test commanded by Sarah Green Chef D’Equipe

There were 11 teams this year an increase with some quite well polished tests shown. We had practiced hard again this year thinking that we would be up against some that would raise their game to try and beat us this year.

For the afternoon, we had the Novice Dressage team (all riding the same test but in different arenas). One person doing Riding Test9 and one doing Riding Test 7, one riding in the Novice Showjumping, 2 sets of pairs concluded the afternoon competing for us.

Novice Dressage Team
Wendy Adams
Louise James
Sally Anne Pierson
Dawn Vear

Lunchtime saw the next run of tests, starting with Dawn who had the unenviable job of going first in one arena always a horrible thing to do.
As the afternoon unfolded the tests went by very quickly still waiting on the results from the morning Rural Riders filled everyone with anticipation.

Finally some scores went up we were in the lead….. 5 more scores to go the tension really starting to show…..

Finally during Louise in her Riding Test Janet called from the tent to advise we had won yet again!!

Novice Dressage Team came 3rd out of 26 teams with individual placings:

Wendy Adams – 1st individually
Sally Anne Pierson – 5th individually
Louise James – 7th individually
Dawn Vear – 7th individually

We only had two competing in Riding Tests as individuals this year no team, however Sally Anne beat her personal best placing at Lincoln taking the second place and Louise with placing of 12th both tests had 39 in their class.

Finally the pairs, unfortunately for us Kilncopse Fly by Night managed to hurt his leg and although both Dawn and he continued regardless he was not a happy fella and they missed out on a really good score. The judge was overheard to say, “what a shame”, they were placed 8th only 7 points behind our other pair.

Both Helen and Martine did a superb effort as usual with a 4th place missed 3rd by one point only, but a good result none the less.

Rachel Smith with Sturtmoor Song 'n' Dance jumped 3 of their best ever clear rounds in the Senior Novice SJ final to finish in 12th place out of 91

Area 17 Regional Qualifier Dressage to Music

With a bop & a swing the Foresters did their thing! Exceptionally well!!

When I first got the event it looked very like a NFPEC take over bid for the whole event, well supported by many of our club members. If any of you are thinking the old adage – “quality not quantity” well think again, not only were we up for domination in number but we were out to win, and that is exactly what we did.

There are 4 main qualifiers for this event and all four were won by Forest ponies, quite an achievement I think you will agree. Not all were members of our club but New Forest ponies none the less!!

I am sure you will all want to see who did what, so please see results below:

Junior qualifier
Won by Sophie Albery riding Brookshill Beethoven

Novice Qualifier (split this year into 2 sections those with BD points and those without)
Non BD section
Won by Caroline Saker riding Wayland Loganberry
Second place Martine Reeves riding Farriers Fingerprint
BD section
Won by Penny Scaife riding a New Forest Pony Chilworth
Second Sarah Green (me) riding Knightwood Golden Eye

Elementary
Won by Helen Dovey riding Crackjack (coloured forest bred pony)
Second Caroline Saker riding Wayland Loganberry

Last but certainly not least Pairs
Won by Mandy Pidgely & Dawn Vear riding Longcopse Elton and Kilncopse Fly by Night
Second Martine Reeves & Helen Campbell riding Farriers Fingerprint & Farriers Foxglove

Overall there will be 6 ponies going to Addington and one of them riding in both Novice and Elementary.

Along with the above result there were many new faces trying their luck at the event not only in the qualifiers but also in the other classes with many placings, too many to mention in this report, but well done to everyone.

All the classes were won by New Forest Ponies what a coo, even if two of them belonged to other clubs, well done!

Yet again we will be in attendance at Addington in October anyone wishing to support please keep 6/7th October, we will also be doing the qualifier for the Quadrille at the same time.

A very big well done to everyone who rode wherever you came the club showed true solidarity and it was wonderful to see so many faces.

A big thank you to all the helpers on the day, I know I repeat this every year, no event would run without helpers who give their time freely.

Next event will be the regional qualifier at Brockenhurst Park 15th July, team selection will be announced soon.

Well done to everyone!!

Area 17 Horse Trials Moreton 17th June 2007

Brilliant result for Caroline Saker riding the Wayland Stud’s Wayland Loganberry not only winning their section but overall winners for the day of the Area 17 Senior Novice Qualifier finishing on their dressage score. They will be going to the finals at Offchurch on 5th August to try and repeat their win there in 2006. Jane Cleal and Farriers Brown Bear also finished on their dressage score in 5th Place.

Area 17 Show Jumping at Langford Farm 22nd June 2007

The day started with some very mixed results for our junior team members largely due to two particularly spooky fillers which caught many seasoned campaigners out. However Andrew Kempe with Miss Darnton’s six year old Rodlease May Delight completed a double clear and finished 3rd individually in the Junior section. The junior style jumping also bought us some very good results with Abbie Wilson and Burley Touch of Gold in 2nd place (and qualify for the championships at Lincoln), Sorcha Easson with Charford Capalcoille in 3rd and Andrew in 4th Place with only 4 marks between them
The Senior style jumping brought a very good 3rd place individually for Rhiannon Randall and Kashman Joe with the team in 5th Place.
Several very heavy deluges in the afternoon made conditions very testing for the two round senior novice team competition coupled with the same two spooky fillers. No team could manage to finish on a zero score and only 4 individuals managed double clears. However our ponies were very consistent, coped well with the mud and completed the day 2nd out of 13 teams. Rachel Smith with Sturtmoor Song ‘n’ Dance actually produced three clears to win the class outright and also qualify to go to Lincoln- a brilliant result. Only 8 people over the course of the junior and senior competitions managed double clears out of some 80 competitors and two of those were our NF ponies
Junior team : Kate Bignell : Ashurst Kittiewake
Sorcha Easson : Charford Capalcoille
Andrew Kempe : Rodlease May Delight
Abbie Wilson : Burley Touch of Gold

Seniors Jane Cleal : Farriers Brown Bear
Sally Anne Pierson : Chester
Rhiannon Randall : Kashman Joe
Sally Anne Langley ;: Willoway Hawthorne (Style team)
Rachel Smith : Sturtmoor Song ‘n’ Dance ( novice SJ team)

Area 17 Hunter Trials 7th May - Posted on Thursday, May 17 2007
STOP PRESS. The NFPEC Senior Novice Hunter Trial team ( Jane Cleal- Farriers Brown Bear, Rachel Smith- Sturtmoor Song'n' Dance, SallyAnne Pierson- Chester and Rhiannon Randall- Kashman Joe) have for the second year running qualified for the Riding Clubs National Hunter Trial Championships- a title which they currently hold. They finished with clear rounds closest to the optimum time set at a fair hunting pace. Proof once again that the ponies can set the pace against the horse!! Sally Anne also finished in 2nd place overall.

Junior member Abbie Wilson with Burley Touch of Gold won the junior section with a very accurate round finishing exactly on the optimum and therefore also heads off to the finals .

We wish them the very best for the finals on 3rd June at Aston Le Walls , Oxfordshire

BRC National Indoor Showjumping Team Championships April 15th 2007 - Posted on Monday, April 23 2007
The New Forest Pony Enthusiasts junior team consisting of
Abbie Wilson – Burley Touch Of Gold
Andrew Kempe – Rodlease May Delight (owned by Miss A Darnton)
Katie Bignell _ Ashurst Kittiwake
Sorcha Easson - Charford Capacoille
certainly proved that they were worthy of their place at the Championships. There could not have been more of a contrast from the wet day in March where they were the only team forward to the hot sunny April day at Hartpury with 30 other teams competing. The conditions in March were so bad that the working in area was waterlogged and unjumpable whereas at Hartpury warnings were continually being heard over the tannoy to ensure that everybody kept cool , jackets discarded and plenty of water be drunk to avoid the effects of dehydration!!!!!!!!
Upon arrival we were directed to the beautiful spacious and cool stables in the private event yard. While familiarising ourselves with the set up we had the chance to study the scores from the senior teams earlier that day and quickly gathered that the courses were no plain sailing. In fact the seniors had managed very few double clears over exactly the same courses that we would face. However with several very careful coursewalks- there were some awkward lines: a triple combination, a double consisting of only one plank for each element and a very narrow viaduct wall we convinced ourselves that our ponies would not let us down.
Sure enough Abbie riding first for the team set us up beautifully with a very smooth clear

and this was followed by a safe clear from Sorcha. 10 years old Katie with her very forward going pony rode a tremendous round and was really unlucky that the lightest of touches lowered a pole for 4 faults. We would have been thrilled to finish with just 4 faults but Andrew with 6yrs old May rose to the challenge in the knowledge that we needed a clear to go through to the 2nd round on a zero score and did just that with a copybook round.
The second round was over a different track again , still very technical and as the coursebuilder remarked a course to make the riders think. At this point there were 10 teams on a zero score.
Our team in fact repeated their success from the first round with the first two clear again followed by once more an unlucky 4 faults leaving Andrew to prove himself an invaluable lynchpin to bring home that clear once again. The cheers from our supporters in the crowd was tremendous as we realised that we had reached the jumpoff and ponies were to be quickly prepared again, the jumpoff course memorised and all team members ready to jump a third round.
There were 7 other teams through to the jumpoff with some very experienced combinations from up north!!
Once again, our first rider did a nice, fast, accurate clear, setting us up nicely .Things were going fantastically until our last pony found a hole in the surface as she turned to jump and lost her back end a little and couldn't recover in time (being only 6!) to take off cleanly so we ended the day on 4 faults. Such a shame as the pony had been an absolute star and had shown maturity well beyond her years.
They finished the day with a well deserved 6th place and with loads and loads of very nice comments from spectators, stewards and the commentator, who was great
There was also a forest bred NF pony from Newcastle (Brookshill Morning Glory) in the 5th placed team who also got 3 very good clear rounds on the day, who came to chat to us all at the end as her pony hadn't met another forester since she left the forest as a youngster.
A brilliant day for our fantastic New Forest Ponies holding their own once more as the only all pony team.

Area Indoor Show Jumping Qualifier - Posted on Tuesday, March 6 2007
Riding Clubs Area Show Jumping Qualifier

The New Forest Pony Enthusiasts Riding Club have got off to a flying start for 2007. The qualifier held at Crofton Manor, Stubbington had very wet and windy conditions , so much so that the warm up area was under water and therefore not usable. However this did not deter our intrepid New Forest ponies from putting in brilliant performances in the indoor arena- the senior team being one of only two teams out of 17 to finish on a zero score. This resulted in a very exciting jump off against the clock for all four members of each team : Chilworth and NFPEC with the best three scores to count. Only one team could qualify for the Championships and thanks to a very speedy Chilworth cob we were just pipped into 2nd Place.
There was no actual junior competition this time but in order to be allowed to compete at the championships our juniors had to jump two rounds each over the same courses as the seniors to warrant their automatic selection for the final. This they certainly did in fine style and would have finished in a very creditable 6th place if they had been included with the seniors. They are truly worthy of their selection to represent Area 17 at the Championships and we wish them the best of luck
Senior Team : Rachel Smith – Sturtmoor Song’Dance
Sally Anne Pierson – Chester
Jane Cleal - Farriers Brown Bear
Rhiannon Randall – Kashman Joe

Junior Team : Katie Bignell – Ashurst Kittiwake
Sorcha Easson - Charford Capacoille
Andrew Kempe – Rodlease May Delight
Abbie Wilson - Burley Touch of Gold

2006 AGM : A brilliant Year for the Club. - Posted on Tuesday, October 31 2006
Success follows Success for New Forest Ponies

2006 has been a fantastic year for the New Forest Pony Enthusiasts Riding Club –affiliated to the British Riding Clubs movement but unique as it is the only club in the country that is dedicated to members with only one type of pony!! There are 430 clubs with more than 38000 members most of whom regularly ride horses as opposed to ponies. The New Forest Pony Enthusiasts who will be celebrating their 21st Birthday next year were formed with the goal of promoting the New Forest pony as an all round useful riding pony, one that could compete and hold its own in the company of horses. At that time the ponies were better known for their ‘lawn mowing skills’ on the ‘open forest’ and few people living away from the New Forest were aware of their huge potential as riding ponies.
Once the club had been accepted as an official affiliated club – there were many doubts expressed by those at ‘HQ’ that a club relying solely on pony riders would last the course, the founder members of the club hit the competitive scene with huge impact. Not only did they win the National Prix Caprilli Championship at their first attempt but they retained the title the following year. The Prix Caprilli- a dressage test involving two jumps on the diagonal line was then replaced by the Riding Test (no jumps involved!) The Enthusiasts had certainly made their mark and have continued to do so over the years in all disciplines. They consistently have teams or individuals qualifying for the National Championships in both dressage and show jumping – juniors and seniors and in most cases finishing very well up in the ‘ribbons’.
2006 has been an exceptional year: the club are current holders of the Senior Novice Hunter Trial Team Championships and also for the first time qualified for the Horse Trial Championships at Offchurch in Warwickshire.
Here they competed in a two day event complete with steeplechase and roads and tracks, really holding their own to finish in 10th place as a team with two of the team finishing in 1st and 4th place.
This result was followed up by more success for the dressage riders- the ‘Rural Riders’ team of 6 riding a dressage test in unison saw off strong competition to finish 27 points ahead of the nearest rivals- a fantastic achievement.
Finally the club for the second year in succession qualified for the Dressage to Music Pairs finals at Addington and once again our ponies excelled themselves finishing in 2nd place by a very narrow margin.
As well as participating in team events members of the club have the opportunity to join in many other activities ranging from instructional clinics in dressage, jumping, showing etc. The club also runs a fun show at Christmas, an Open Show in the Spring, a trailer towing course and a very successful Sponsored Ride. Over the last three years the Sponsored Rides have raised in the region of £10,000 for the Brockenhurst RDA Group- a wonderful contribution towards the indoor school at Ford Farm.
The recent AGM was very well attended with a toast raised to the success of the club for 2006. Cups and trophies were also presented to the performance competition winners :
Ridden Showing : Sabine Andree Parson’s Sabine’s Gold Sovereign .
In Hand : Katie Baxter from Yorkshire with Wayland Golden Harry
Dressage : Mr and Mrs Young’s Farriers Foxglove
Jumping : Mrs Mary Bryant’s Wayland Loganberry
Driving : Margaret Honeybourne from the IOW with Rushmoor Dark Lady
Junior : Alicia Stay from IOW with Merrie Magnusson
The annual award for the committee member deemed to have ‘worked hardest’ went to Ruth Shepley who always produces such a super publicity stand at the shows.

Rural Riders Dressage Championships - Posted on Thursday, September 14 2006
Dressage Report from the Championships at Lincoln

What a start, the notification of who officially had qualified came out late, only 1 day before the entries had to be in for Lincoln! A rather hurried cheque writing and completing all the forms with all the information and posting off to British Riding Clubs, made us all a little jittery this year. Not to mention that we had already sent off (separately) the Rural Riders entry and our stabling requirements for the weekend!

Then tragedy, Dawn phoned to say the times were posted on the web site for the Rural Riders only to see nothing on there for us!!!! Friday afternoon at 4pm, the office was closed and there was no one to talk to about what we had just seen…… We both agreed to keep stum and not let the rest of the team know until we were certain it would be OK!! On a fit of panic I called the stable manager to check he had us down for the stabling, only to find that he too, had nothing for us.

Monday morning, a call into the British Riding Clubs to find that they had lost all the sheets, but no problem they would fit us in, phew panic over…..

By now we are all in preparation mode, the final details being sorted out for the weekend. Those travelling together had arranged times and we were all ready to go. For those that have never been lucky enough to go to Lincoln the journey is quite long normally around 5 hours. Unfortunately for all of us this year due to closures on M3, accidents on A34 and heavy traffic it took nearly all of us around 6 – 6.5 hours travelling, some very tired ponies and people on Friday night.

After arriving ponies sorted out and settled into their stables for the night, tents erected, sleeping arrangements sorted, oven on for pasta and lasagne nicely heating up, we started to tell them all about the lead up to the weekend. Early night for everyone after checking the ponies were OK, to be fresh for the competition the next day.

The mist was rising from the show ground as we rose on Saturday morning, to a beautiful sunrise, Lincoln show ground really is quite stunning and so big, and it never ceases to amaze me each year.

First on was Sally Anne followed by most of the team in succession. Rural Riders at 11.20 meaning that Mandy had to change her individual time for the Riding Test.

This year they moved the arena for the RR this year into the presentation area, which meant that more people were watching as we competed, last to go. We really did look good, and gained a round of applause from the people watching a very unexpected but welcome response for us all.

The rest is history, we won the Rural Riders with a clear 27 points, and the riders in their riding order were:

Mandy Pidgely (lead) Longcopse Elton
Martine Reeves Farriers Firelight
Helen Campbell Farriers Foxglove
Charlotte Manning Farriers Fingerprint
Sally Anne Pearson Chester II
Dawn Vear Kilncopse Fly by Night

We made one change to our line up after the breed show, a very big hearted Vicky Palmer pulled herself out of the team and was replaced by Sally Anne, as her pony misbehaved at the breed show and she didn’t want to let the rest of the team down.

A big sacrifice after practising month after month, thank you Vicky from us all, you were as much a winner as the rest of us!!

The final results:
1st NFPEC 503 points
2nd Northern DG 476 points
3rd Rugby 471 points
4th Solihull 464 points

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

We aim to go back next year so anyone that is interested in taking part will need to put their names down at the beginning of the year. This is not for the feint hearted takes a lot of hard work and commitment, you must be working at high Novice and or Elem.

Our Riding Test Team made a good effort once again coming 8th out of 32 teams. The final results:

1st Rugby 9 points
2nd Elstead 12 points
3rd E.Yorkshire 13 points
4th Findon 15 points
5th Mid Somerset 17 points
6th Holsworthy 18 points
7th Chalfont Heights 18 points
8th NFPEC 20 points

So close but so far……look out next year!

Individual Placings

Sally Anne – 75% 6th place (last year 2nd on 71%)
Mandy Pidgely – 71% 9th place (last 2nd on 69.5%)
Dawn Vear 60%
Vicky Palmer 62%

Helen Campbell Individual – 74.5% 8th place

Onto our Junior!!

Sophie Albery who vowed to be next year, made her 2nd visit to Lincoln complete with Mum, Dad and 3 collies. They all joined us for the celebrations on Saturday night, a lovely BBQ chef’ed by Pete Pidgely, with some lovely food.

Sophie rode a lovely test with her pony Brookshill Beethoven and we are pleased to say was placed 9th with 64.5%. It was close this year the 3rd to 10th place only had 3% in it, so well done, look out next year.

My thanks go to Dawn for supporting and helping me all year with paperwork and for listening! Thanks to Shirley and Simon for letting us use their field for the Rural Rider practice week after week. Thanks to Martine, Mandy & Pete for all the food that you provided, it was yummy, especially the lasagne!

Finally thanks to all that competed this year, well done to everyone, keep practicing it would be good to get back there next year.

Winter series starts soon, so watch this space…….

Once again a very successful year for the Dressage Teams again, well done everyone.

Sarah (Photos to follow very soon but problems wih photobucket who upload photos onto the web for us)

PS: Although Helen Dovey does not ride for the Enthusiasts anymore she also qualified for the finals on her ride Crackerjack the coloured forest bred pony.

She was National Champion for Elem and came a close 2nd in the Medium, so well done to her too!!
