Wessex Cancer Trust Brighter Days Appeal
Hampshire Horsewatch and Equine Liaison Officers Sponsored Ride to support The Wessex Cancer Trust (Brighter Days) Appeal took place on the Portsmouth Estate, home of the Earl Of Portsmouth, Farleigh Wallop, near Basingstoke, on Sunday 7th September. The weather forecast for the day had not been promising but the day turned out to be perfect weather for riding. 80 riders entered the Ride and enjoyed a varied ride divided into a short and long course. Riders could choose which ride to take.
The riders, who came from as far as Southampton, raised over £3,300 with more sponsorship still to be handed over. This was a magnificent total and will be added to the money already raised for the appeal by Basingstoke Police who have since January embarked on 9 months of charitable fund raising events. The current sponsorship figure has reached £50,000.
Hampshire Horsewatch committee on behalf of the Appeal, would like to thank the Riders, their families, friends and supporters who took part in the Ride and generously gave money. Additionally the committee would like to extend its thanks to Lord Portsmouth for his kind permission to use his land. Also thanks must go to his staff, who assisted with the course preparation. Lastly thanks must go to the many volunteers who came forward to offer their help in organising the event, preparing the course and offering assistance on the day. Without the overall team effort and spirit shown the success of the day could not have been achieved.
The sponsorship money will go to help build a dedicated cancer ward at North Hants Hospital in Basingstoke which will benefit those in need of specialist care for cancer treatment.
