Oakwood Rock – Overall Champion – colt
Reserve Kingsgarn Kim – filly
At the Pre-sale Foal show of
registered NF ponies held at Beaulieu Road prior
to the auction on Thursday, 27th September, Crabbswood
Zack owned by Mrs M Rayner brought
the hammer down at 510gns. This
Forest Bred colt (sired and born on the forest) came 2nd in
its class but created a new record price. The highest price for a filly was Lyndhurst
Beauty (M. Maton) 430gns. Last
year the top foal price was 475gns which again was for a colt.
Taking the Overall Championship
rosette was Oakwood Rock, colt (B. Ingram) with Reserve, Kingsgarn
Kim, filly (P. Rix).
All the winning ponies were Forest Bred.
Organised by the New Forest
Pony Publicity Group in conjunction with the NF Livestock Society,
the two Pre-sale shows (May for youngstock, September for foals)
encourage owners to halter break their ponies.
This is one of the entry requirements and also to claim
their prize money the pony needs to be sold in the following
auction. Mrs Mandy Pidgley
from the NF Pony Publicity Group said, “The pony prices were
up in the hundreds again. I
am very pleased the breed is now being recognised.”
Top Panel Judge, Mr Malcolm
Fry on making his selection said, “They are good quality foals,
all good movers and a credit to the Forest Bred.
Not short in the front but with some good length of rein.”
The last two remaining auction
sales for 2007 are October 18th and November 22nd.
