Introduction to "Equifun"
Equifun was the idea of Angela Maskell after she went to Portugal on holiday and saw children and adults competing in Working Equitation. It looked such fun that when she returned to England she decided to organise an event loosely based on what she had seen.
The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy, which is a Residential Specialist College, caters for people between 16 and 25 years old with learning disabilities and difficulties. Students learn what they need to know literacy, numeracy and communication skills through horses. All capital expenditure is dependent on fundraising and donations. A Team Chase which raised funds for the Fortune Centre in the past was folded up, so Angela decided it would be a good opportunity to take its place with the event called Equifun.
Angela also wanted to encourage people to be able to go to an event where it was not important what you were wearing, as long as it complied with Health and Safety, or what style of equipment the horse was ridden in, be it Western, English or Parelli as long as riders could control their mounts, the idea was to be able to relax and have fun!
Last year's Equifun raised over £4000 for the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy. This year's event has even more to offer, with a Lusitano horse display by Patrick Kempe and line dancing dogs with the Friendly Dog Club! If you didn't attend last year, come along and give it a go.
