CADNAM SHOW SOCIETY 2008

What’s happening at Cadnam show society during the 2008 show season

Our shows are aimed at the grass roots local competitor, equine or human, just beginning their showing experiences. We try to give our competitors practice under professional judges who will encourage the new partnerships with comments if requested. Nothing gives our Committee greater pleasure than to watch new partnerships develop and compete successfully at larger more prestigious shows than ours at a later date.

Take note ring one is purely for coloured horses and ponies. All classes for coloured horses and ponies are open to non CHAPS and BPSA members. Again this year we have put on native /cob/ traditional and separate non native classes giving both sections a chance to be judged against their own specific criteria. Also coloured native /cob/ traditional and separate non native young stock classes have been added to give younger animals more chance of being more highly placed. The ever popular affiliated chaps qualifier classes are still in the timetable for the more seasoned competitor and this year we have affiliated to bpsa who are offering their qualifier classes. Do come and support these classes, don’t be shy you will never know how high your coloured is rated unless you compete under a CHAPS or BSPA judge.

By request this show is a qualifier for MHCGB Miniature Horse National Championship Show Note these classes are open to non members. We have our usual BAPS classes however we are hosting the ApHC UK Southern Show (eleven more In Hand and Ridden appaloosas classes) New this year In Hand and Ridden qualifying classes for the Veteran Horse Society Showing Championships open to both Members and Non-members of the Veteran Horse Society. We have also been asked to host Three Side Saddle Association qualifying classes.

In Hand and Ridden Shows Sunday 1st June, 29th June, 13th July, 17th august, 31st august, 21st September

These popular shows retain most of the classes you seemed to find favour with last year. However we some classes at these shows are qualifiers for the Royal London Horse Show 2008. One new class this year is for in hand part bred native was requested by many competitors. New Forest Pony classes were again well supported last year, so the in hand forest bred class any age remains. All the usual morning and afternoon Championship Sashes are being offered again.

The Cadnam Show Committee were delighted with the interest generated at our 2007 Spring Show where forty-one turnouts took part. Our second show was less well supported as we were forced to postpone the Summer Show until September due to pre-booked competitors from the North of the County having to travel through the foot and mouth outbreak area in north of Hampshire.

This years 15th June British Driving Society Affiliated Spring Show will give competitors an outing before Smiths Lawn the following week. However both driving shows are aimed at the professional and grass roots or local competitor, equine or human, at the top just beginning their showing experiences. Two rings operate independently in the morning one aimed at the more experienced competitor whilst the other caters for the less practised. Ring one offers Private Driving enthusiasts an Amateur, Novice, over 13.2 and 13.2 and under private driving classes, plus a country vehicle, native, hackney, trade and commercial classes. Whilst Ring two offers a novice whip, novice horse or pony, veteran horse or pony, junior whip and coloured driven as a single or multiple. During the lunch break six in hand classes, two Concours D’Elegance classes, two turnout to make the best Snap-shot classes and a ride and drive class keep the stewards busy. The BDS judges return from lunch to judge classes for two and four wheel vehicles. The Private driving section is a Victoria Food Championship qualifier. The British Driving Society offer their champion and Reserve rosette and all six sections offer super sponsors sashes to the Champions and Reserves.

Spectators are very welcome, there is no admission charge and we offer several different types of catering facilities. There is always plenty of driving minded people to swop information with. Last year we were lucky enough to have three BDS Area Commissioners on the showground. Terry Barrett drove up from Somerset, Mrs. Honeybourne journeyed us from the Isle of Wight and our own Roger Page from Hampshire.
The Cadnam Show Committee look forward to seeing you competing or as a spectator at one of our driving shows this year.
